Privacy Policy

A static reference tool with no accounts, no sign-up, and no reason to know who you are.

Last updated October 2, 2026.

This policy explains what happens to information when you use macaddresslookup.app. The short version is that the site is a static reference tool with no accounts, no sign-up, and no reason to know who you are.

What we collect

Nothing you type into a lookup

MAC address lookups on this site are resolved in your browser. When you type an address, your browser downloads a small static data file covering that prefix and matches it locally. The address you typed is never sent to us, is not logged, and does not appear in any request we can see.

The bulk lookup tool and the MAC address generator work the same way. Text you paste, and files you load into the bulk tool, are read by your browser and never uploaded.

Standard web server logs

Like any website, our servers record the requests they receive. A log line contains the time, the page or file requested, an HTTP status code, your browser's user agent string, the referring page if your browser sent one, and your IP address. We use these logs to keep the service running, to see which pages are worth improving, and to identify abuse.

Logs are retained for a limited period and then deleted. We do not attempt to link them to a person, and we do not sell or share them.

API requests

The public API at /api/ is the one part of the site that runs on our server rather than in your browser. Requests to it appear in the server logs described above, including the MAC address queried. The API is rate limited by IP address, which requires us to count recent requests per address for a short window.

What we do not collect

  • Names, email addresses, or any other contact details, unless you volunteer them by emailing us.
  • Payment information. Nothing on this site is for sale.
  • Accounts or passwords. There is nothing to sign into.
  • Location beyond whatever coarse inference an IP address allows.

Local storage in your browser

The site stores your light, dark, or automatic theme choice and any manual language preference in your browser's local storage. These preferences are used on this device.

Recent lookup history is off by default. If you enable it on the homepage, this browser saves up to 20 distinct completed lookups, with only the normalized address or prefix and the time of last use. Loading the list does not run lookups. Selecting an entry searches the current registry data locally. Bulk input, pasted network logs, generated addresses, inspector input, and API requests are not added to this history. A local cancellation marker prevents unfinished lookups from restoring entries after a clear; it is never sent anywhere.

Clear saved lookups empties the list while keeping saving enabled. Switching history off removes its stored data and preference. If browser storage prevents cleanup, the page tells you that deletion could not be confirmed. You can also remove the data in your browser settings. Saved history is not synced, uploaded, added to page URLs automatically, or sent to analytics.

Third parties

Cloudflare

This site is served through Cloudflare, which operates as a content delivery network and protective proxy in front of our servers. Requests pass through its infrastructure before reaching us, and it processes connection data in order to route traffic, cache content, and block attacks. Cloudflare acts as our service provider and handles that data under its own terms.

Advertising and analytics

Where advertising or analytics are enabled on a page, those scripts are supplied by Google and operate under Google's own privacy policy. They may set cookies or read identifiers in order to measure traffic and select advertisements, including personalised advertisements where you have consented. We do not receive the individual data those services collect.

You can opt out of personalised advertising through Google Ads Settings, and browser controls or an ad blocker will prevent these scripts from loading at all. The rest of the site works normally without them.

Nothing else

The site loads no other external resources. Fonts, stylesheets, scripts, and registry data are all served from our own domain, so browsing the site does not disclose your visit to anyone we have not named here.

Where the registry data comes from

The MAC address records this site publishes are taken directly from the public registry files issued by the IEEE Registration Authority. They contain organization names and business addresses that those organizations filed themselves and that the IEEE publishes openly. They are not personal data we have gathered, and we do not edit them.

If your organization's filing is wrong or you want it changed, the change has to be made with the IEEE. Once their published files change, this site follows on the next import.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to how it is processed. In practice we hold very little: unless you have emailed us, the only record of you is a server log entry keyed to an IP address. Write to us and we will tell you what we have and remove what we can.

Children

This site is a technical reference and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be posted here with a new date. We recommend checking back if you rely on the specifics.
